Pepsi Next – An Alternative to the “Alternative”

I need to make a confession: I couldn’t keep myself away from soda. I did really well for a few weeks but I ended up missing it. I decided to compromise with myself : limit the amount of soda I have & look for alternatives to my favorites.  Pepsi NEXT is one of a couple sodas I drink in moderation.

Pepsi NEXT’s claim to fame is that it has 60% less sugar with a real Cola taste.  That doesn’t mean anyone should drink more of Pepsi NEXT because it doesn’t have as many calories or sugars. I’m not a doctor, but I’m sure if you do a quick search on Google you will find articles suggesting you limit the amount of soda you drink even if it’s diet. Let’s take a quick comparison of basic nutrition information. You can read the entire nutritional information at Pepsi’s Official Beverage Facts website.

While I was pregnant I developed Gestational Diabetes. I maintained my Gestational Diabetes with diet only.  The only way I could enjoy soda was if it was diet because it ran up my blood sugar. I had a horrible time getting use to cola “diet” sodas because of the strong chemical aftertaste.

When I tried Pepsi NEXT the very first time (about two months ago) I only noticed a fairly mild chemical aftertaste when my can of soda was fairly lukewarm.  When Pepsi NEXT is cold I don’t notice an aftertaste. It truly tastes like a Pepsi without as much sugar. If you decide to drink Pepsi NEXT I suggest making sure it is ice cold. It’s also really good in the 20z variety you find at convenience stores.

If you’re looking for a refreshing beverage that is a compromise between regular soda and diet soda I recommend giving Pepsi NEXT a try. You might surprised at how good it actually tastes. I know I was.

Pepsi NEXT is on Facebook & Twitter.
