I love watching Leo enjoy pureed foods. It’s such a long cry of having a bottle every two hours. Sometimes making my own pureed foods is not an option so I have to resort to keeping jarred baby food on tap. Unfortunately, a lot of baby food you see today on shelves contain various fillers and added salt & sugar. Before I purchase baby food in retail I thoroughly check out the ingredient list. If the baby food makes the cut then before Leo gets to enjoy what I purchased I taste it myself to make sure it’s something I feel comfortable giving him. Some of my friends call me crazy but I like to think of it as taking precautions.
I wasn’t the only one who wrinkled their nose against baby food we see today. Jennifer Broe, founder of Baby Gourmet & mother of two children, was also dissatisfied. One day she decided to take matters into her own hands: Jennifer started cooking meals for her 6 month old daughter to enjoy. Jennifer’s passion for ensuring not only her children, but other children experience wholesome meals is what inspired her to begin selling her delicious meals at a local farmer’s market. With the help of her sister Jill Vos, Baby Gourmet was born.
Jennifer developed the resealable pouch packaging with Mom’s in mind. Pouches can be throw in diaper bags without taking space, and the resealable spout makes it very easy to squeeze the right amount into a spoon. When children are a little bit older they can even eat from the pouch themselves. The pouch is thermo-dynamic meaning each flavor is flash cooked unlike jarred food conserving all nutrients.
The meals Jennifer and Jill developed together aren’t your typical baby meals. Your baby can enjoy meals such as “Juicy Pear and Garden Greens”, “Vanilla Banana Berry Risotto”, “Hearty Vegetables with Turkey” and many more. Baby Gourmet is truly “gourmet.” Baby Gourmet has made it possible for our children to enjoy foods us as parents would also enjoy without sacrificing quality. Why would you feed something to your baby you wouldn’t dare to eat yourself? You’ll also be comforted knowing every meal Baby Gourmet makes has been USDA, FDA and Organic certified. Did I forget to mention every batch of food Baby Gourmet makes is taste tested for approval?
I was given the opportunity from Baby Gourmet to sample and review “Baby’s Sweet Potato Pie.” I did a double take when I received my sample. I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to get. Was my son really going to enjoy one of my favorite holiday desserts without the extra added sugar and salt? I did like I always do with new food: review the ingredient list.. The complete receipe for Baby’s Sweet Potato Pie is Organic Apple, Organic Sweet Potato, Organic Ground Cinnamon, and Organic Lemon Juice Concentrate. Simple and without the extra fillers.
I would have liked to feed my son just by squeezing the food out of the pouch to the spoon but that’s impossible. My son is a demanding eater. If I don’t have a spoon or a bottle in his mouth when it’s feeding time he’s not the happiest child (that’s an understatement!). I squeezed the contents of the bag into a small bowl. The texture for Baby’s Sweet Potato Pie isn’t too thick making it easy for babies to swallow.
Before I sat down to feed Leo I had to perform the last quirk to my new food introduction. I had to sample the baby food myself. I needed to know what my son was going to eat. Could Baby Gourmet really pull off a delicious sweet potato pie?
It tasted exactly like Sweet Potato Pie. It was so delicious I took another “sample.” I didn’t think the taste of Sweet Potato Pie was possible with a few simple ingredients. Needless to say I was more than comfortable in feeding this meal to my son. Leo was just as excited as I was to feed him Baby Gourmet. He’s even started a new habit where if I set the spoon down for a few seconds he reaches for the spoon and bowl when I’m feeding him this meal. Can someone say eager? Haha.
As a mom I am thankful I was introduced to Baby Gourmet. I don’t want to sacrifice quality for convenience. My son doesn’t deserve that. Baby Gourmet has made it easy for babies to enjoy real food made with real ingredients. If I could ever meet Jennifer in person I would love to give her a giant hug for creating such a wonderful product. Leo will be eating more Baby Gourmet in the future.
Because Baby Gourmet is in retail stores nationwide, including my local Wal*Mart, it will be easy for myself and and other parents to purchase individual packages. Baby Gourmet also sells some of their flavors in packs of 12 on Amazon. Are you a Canadian reader of mine? Baby Gourmet is also available in Canada through Well.Ca!

I made my sons food myself because it was healthier, I was working at the time and it was hard to keep up with, but wouldn’t have it any other way. However, if this had been there, I would have gone this route. This is such a great idea and I wish I had come up with it. I will share with other new moms I know.
This sounds like a great brand, I will be passing this on to my pregnant cousin
Yumm!! I always taste test my kid’s food, too. And my husband said I was crazy! lol
I bet Son would love this, too!
Thank you for the insight into Baby Gourmet! It’s a nice, healthier option when I have zero time, but still want to give my daughter something good!
My girls are out of baby food now, but I always made their food back then, too. I think this would have been such a great help to me, had I known about it then! Thanks for sharing, it’s something I can pass along to my friends with little ones.
I loved your reiew even though my son no longer eats baby food my cousin is having a baby and i am going to get this for her thank you so much
I love this review! My sister just had a baby a few months ago and I am going to tell her all about this!
I love pouches! I give them to my 20 month old girl to eat right out of the pouch. It’s nice to be able to give her a healthy snack that she can feed to herself.
That is a great healthy way for kids to eat! Nice review!
Huh interesting, I always feel a little squicked when I see the applesauce in the squeezy packages. I’m sure they’re normal and all. But Squeezy things just seems odd to me too. LOL
I’m guessing kids must like them! The young ones they’re meant for of course.
Thank you for such great information on this product. Great review I wish they had this stuff when my kids were little.
Never heard of them, seems like a really good product. Thanks for sharing.
I love the idea of baby food in a pouch. It’s much safer that glass jars since they’re unbreakable. Oh, and I was like you when my kids were babies, tasting everything first. hehee!
