A Sleeping Lion

Isn’t it cute how babies sleep butt up?

I had an exciting, but hot, weekend. My husband has to work on the 4th of July so we decided after his job didn’t want him to come in on Sunday to go to a local BBQ Cook-Off with fireworks in the evening. We got to sample 20 different pork butts and vote on a favorite for the People’s Choice prize.. You didn’t read that last statement wrong. I definitely said pork butt. Contrary to the name, the part of the pig that you get the pork butt from isn’t the actual pig’s butt. A pork butt is the upper shoulder of a pig. I was literally in a pork comatose for an hour after we sampled. My husband and I differed on our favorites. Luckily one of the ones I really liked won. Some of the samples were delicious while some of them… not so much. If you want me to blunt I could have made my version of pork butt taste better than at least the 3-5 we sampled.

After the pork butt sampling we went to the benches to listen to a cover band.

I was such a trooper braving the heat. We are actually cooling off majorly here in Kansas. It was a whole 98 degrees yesterday! Hah!

The rest of the night we enjoyed free watermelon, watches a hot air balloon fail to launch, listened to songs about drinking beer (I guess that’s the “American” thing to do?), and visited the different vendors until the fireworks started. I wish the display lasted longer than 15 minutes, but no complaints here.

Today I went to a mom friend’s house for a play date. We meet twice a week at her house with my other mom friend. I would go to the park more but it’s been a bit too warm to take my son out unless it’s really early in the morning. We got the cutest picture of our babies before we all went home. Just take a look at these best friends:

Life has definitely gave us a break momentarily from last week’s stress. I hope it stays that way for awhile. I’m quite happy.
