I need to get this off my chest for the night and then in the morning I will have Fabulous Freebie Wednesday.
I am seeing SO MANY videos of people uploading videos of the tornadoes in Texas today. Most of them are not trained spotters or police. One particular video I have seen so far is a group being outside watching a tornado on the ground in amazement, then realizing the tornado was heading their way so that’s when they decided to take shelter.
As a survivor from the May 22nd Joplin Tornado I’m going to make a plea.
Please don’t risk your life to take a video or picture. If there is a tornado warning get to shelter. Make sure you have your cellphone, NOAA Radio, a flash light, and a plan of action if a tornado is on your way. Don’t wait to see if there is a tornado. A tornado can form at any time and sometimes you can’t see them. Let’s not also forget most storms with tornadic potential are severe. That includes dangerous lightning, wind damage, hail, and heavy rain.
You only have one life to live. Don’t risk it over a photo or video. It’s not worth it at all. That’s what police, emergency management personnel, meteorologists, spotters, and storm chasers are here for.
I’m asking everyone to please share this blog with everyone you know. We can reduce the risk of fatalities if we take the steps necessary to save our lives.
